Is normal to see strawberries in Hungary in February?

Because yesterday i saw at the Grocery store. There is a small one next to my flat where i go for emergency needs. Otherwise i go to the market to buy fresh vegetables and fruits. Or i get supple from my parents' cellar ;)
In our globalized world we can buy any kind of ingredients whenever we wish to eat it, almost all year long! I would say the only limit is the thickness of our purse... or maybe not anymore. Transportation for wholesale dealers is getting cheaper, prices are getting downer. Isn't it strange that plants can be grown in our homecountry are sometimes more expensive than those farm products which are travelling long distances? If its not us who pays the costs, than who? The farmers who can't sell anymore their products and loose there work in our land? The nature with all the pollutions from the transportation of all these goods? Or us, people with our health, who buy and eat products grown with chemicals  in mass production?

Enjoy fresh fruit and veg at its seasonal best

Eat Seasonably celebrates eating the right things at the right time: a crisp salad when it’s hot and sunny, a wholesome stew when it’s cold; strawberries in June, Brussels sprouts in December.
Eating seasonably means:
Better taste – top chefs agree that fresh seasonal produce is best
Better value – our research has shown that a basket of fruit and veg bought in the summer can be as much as a third cheaper than the same basket bought out of season
Better for the planet – growing in season requires lower levels of artificial inputs than at other times of the year
